Rosemont Ridge Middle School Visit

UPDATE-Hi Students from Mr. Snook's 6th grade Rosemont Ridge Middle School language Arts classes. As I noted, due to modern technical difficulties with google blogging, we are extending the deadline to get your writing in and encouraging you to leave your response on my website, wwww.corneliaseigner.com [FOUND AT THE LINK TO THE RIGHT]. [thank you to those who have already left comments.]
You can still leave your comment here as well, if you can figure it out.

Again, I so enjoyed the opportunity to come to two classes today to speak about writing and story and books.

As we talked about, here is a chance to win a copy of my book, Images of America: WEST LINN. Just leave a bit of your writing on the following topic:

Tell me about the importance of writing and story in about 100 words or so.

Here are some things to think about, ideas of what to write about:

Tell me what writing does for society. Tell me why people write. Tell me why stories are important. Tell me what writing does for history. Tell me what would happen if we didn't write. Tell me how writing changes people, affects people. When you read a good piece of writing, what does it do for you. When you leave a movie theater or watch a good movie at home, how does it make you feel? What does it do for you? What would happen if all we had was word of mouth?

NEW DEADLINE: Please leave your Writing Response by noon, January 4, 2010.

The comment section is at the end of this blog post. Just click where it says, "comments" and you will see other comments and an opportunity to write your own. I would suggest first writing your thoughts on a separate piece of paper (or word document), then cutting and pasting it onto your comment section. Sometimes it takes a moment to create a google account. I will read all of your comments and pick a winner, which will be announced Friday. The winner will receive a copy of my West Linn book, Images of America: WEST LINN,

which will be sent to school the week you all get back to school in January.

Email me at corneliaseigneur@comcast.net if you have any questions, or if you would like to email me your comment. As noted, just go to the link at my website, www.corneliaseigneur.com [A DIRECT LINK TO MY WEBSITE IS IN THE RIGHT COLUMN OF THIS BLOG--] There you will find the same blog post about my Rosemont visit, with a very simple way to leave your writing comment as well.

Happy writing.

Speaking for a women's group luncheon Nov. 17

A womens group at a church has asked me to speak at their Women's luncheon Tuesday Nov. 17 - Rachel's first grade teacher Mrs. McLain is the one in charge of the group and she e-mailed me back in September asking me. It will be fun to connect with her again.

I will talk about the writing process and what was the most interesting part of writing the book and what was the most unusual fact I found out about West Linn. I enjoy sharing with groups.

Amazon Customer Review online

I was thrilled to have someone post a customer review on the amazon book website- here it is cut and pasted, about my West Linn book -

Father's Day surprise, June 22, 2009
This was an awesome find for our family. I found my copy at Costco the day before Father's Day. My family has been in West Linn for over a hundred years but I didn't expect to find any pictures of my family in it. What a surprise when I found pictures of The Tiedeman Farm,my Great-Grandfather, Great, Great-Aunts, friends of my family and friends from High School. I want to thank the Author for putting this book together and giving me not only a piece of history but a piece of my family as well!!

The Human 50

Cedaroak Park Primary school had all of its student body members and teachers line up for a Human 50th in their fields June 8 for the ongoing yearlong celebration of 50 years as a school in the Robinwood neighborhood. I was asked to climb in the donated PGE bucket for the occasion to take a photograph.

I had never been in a PGE bucket before. Wow. Blake was my able driver as we moved higher and higher.

It was fun seeing the students and staff line up in the pre-outlined with chalk shape of a life size 50- what a great school in the community to be a part of.

Book Review in Sunday's Oregonian newspaper

The Oregonian's Sunday O section featured a book review on my West Linn book on Sunday May 24, 2009.

Here is the cut and paste as well as the link at the end.

Book review: 'West Linn'
by Katie Schneider, Special to The Oregonian

In 1902, two men, Ellis Hughes and Bill Dale, discovered a large, partially buried rock near Hughes' home. It turned out to be a 15.5-ton iron meteorite. Hughes, looking to make a profit, spent three months moving the rock onto his own land, then charged admission to see it. A lawsuit and a change of ownership later, the meteorite ended up at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. A photograph of the Willamette Meteorite graces the cover of "West Linn," a regional history. Author Cornelia Becker Seigneur uses historic pictures and brief captions to tell of the town's early industries, notable citizens and civic institutions. Seigneur, a journalist and West Linn resident, freelances to The Oregonian.
